questioning uniqueness

Thinking about uniqueness.

Is it possible to be completely unique in this era?

jewels for joy embodies a brand DNA focused on handcrafting. Every step of each design is undertaken by skillful artisans. My designs stem from imagination and everyday inspirations, drawing from the realms of art and design. I find immense inspiration in fellow artists and artisans throughout history, and I am particularly grateful that we live in an era where we can access a plethora of amazing creations and images through social media and the internet. The challenge for me lies in how we utilise social media and interpret the vast pool of imagery we encounter daily.

‘How can I create something unique?’

I am aware that achieving complete uniqueness is sometimes not feasible. Occasionally, certain designs I create may bear resemblance to those of other artists and designers. However, during the design process, I choose to trust my instincts and go with the flow. In the realm of jewelry design, the approach we adopt at 'jewels for joy' ensures that no piece is finalized before undergoing the touch of various hands. As I am not a setter, and setting itself is a complex craft, the setter who works on the jewelry leaves a piece of their soul on the design, ultimately adding to the uniqueness of each piece. I long for the sincerity and distinctiveness of the production process. I think at the end of the day sincerity is unique.

The question asked at the beginning of this blog post is one that constantly occupies my thoughts. At times, it feels overwhelming, while at other times, the designing process flows naturally for me. I firmly believe that creating a unique piece of jewellery entails the collaboration of numerous skilled artisans. Though I may be the one envisioning and creating the wax mold, the jewellery wouldn't come to life without the contribution of each precious hand that touches it. I am immensely grateful to be surrounded by such talented individuals who guide me on this joyful journey of designing and cultivating a soulful brand.

Love,

Betina
